6G-SANDBOX was presented in SNS Lunchtime Webinar

On the 15th of February, our Technical Coordinator, Prof. Pedro Merino, from University of Malaga, presented the 6G-SANDBOX project in the context of the SNS Lunchtime webinars, which were organised by #SNSJU. The first webinar, presented Stream /Strand B5 & C & D projects addressing 6G Holistic System, SNS experimental Infrastructures & SNS Large scale Trials and Pilots. A White Paper from Architecture WG is released.

This white paper summarizes the main findings from the European research landscape on the vision of the 6G architecture. Such a design vision is derived from around 45 projects starting from October 2020 in all relevant areas of 5G while paving the way towards 6G, within the 5G Public Private-Partnership (5G PPP) in the scope of the European Framework for Research and Innovation.https://zenodo.org/record/7313232#.Y-TCQnZBxD8

Dr. Salkintzis from Lenovo presents 6G-SANDBOX in ETSI Research Conference

On the 6th-7th of February, ETSI Research Conference took place in Sophia Antipolis, France. In this context Dr. Apostolis Salkintzis, from Lenovo provided a high-level overview of the 6G-SANDBOX project and explained how it can help us in our journey to 6G.

The main objective of this project is to build an experimentation platform that can help us evaluate new technologies towards 6G and measure important 6G KPIs and KVIs.

It was also pointed out that the 6G-SANDBOX project is open to third-parties willing to contribute either with new technologies, or with new use-cases and experiments. The most important question from the audience was whether the 6G-SANDBOX platform will be able to interoperate with other experimentation platforms towards creating federated experimentation platforms. Kick off meeting!

The Kick off event, which was successfully organized by 6G- SANDBOX Consortium, took place in the Flemish town of Leuven, in Belgium on the 11th and 12th of January 2023. The 2-day hybrid event, was followed by representatives from 17 project partners from 8 European countries. The participants, had the chance to meet or e-meet each other, introduce their teams and their role at the project, while they followed all the presentations which got everyone on the same page and off to a great start!

The first day, Michael Dieudonne (Keysight), the Project Coordinator, opened the meeting and Pedro Merino (UMA), the Technical Manager, initiated the discussion on 6G-SANDBOX technical aspects. The meeting continued with more discussions on technical components made by partners during afternoon’s sessions. During the second day, and among other presentations, the 4 platforms (Athens, Malaga, Oulu, Berlin) of the project were presented by the partners in charge. Finally, the traditional group photo was taken within the last day. We thank all the participants for their presence and their commitment to the success of this project!

6G-SANDBOX press release

Funded by Horizon Europe, 6G-SANDBOX is one of 35 new projects launched by Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU), which the European Commission (EC) established in 2021 to support the development of smart communication components, systems, and networks considered essential in building out a first-class European supply chain for advanced 5G and 6G technologies.

Seventeen organizations join forces to create 6G-SANDBOX, a pan-European testbed for 6G experimentation and validation of 5G-Advanced and 6G capabilities. The project, which started 1st of January 2023, aims to develop EU-wide experimentation platforms to test promising technical 6G enablers, including zero-touch management, flexible multi-tenancy architecture, network intelligence, security, digital twins, artificial intelligence (AI), and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces.

The project’s press release was made by Keysight, project coordinator, on Thursday 5th January 2023 and you can access it here.
