6G-SANDBOX project announces Large-Scale RIS TRIALS

6G-SANDBOX Announces Large-Scale RIS Trials in 2026! The announcement was first made today by Carles Navarro Manchón (Keysight Technologies) during WSA2025, at the closing of his keynote speech “Overview of past and future 6G Technologies trials.” For more details, read the full Press Release and read all the relevant infromation here

ESA and SNS JU 6G-SANDBOX join forces to pioneer large-scale non-terrestrial network trials

he 6G-SANDBOX project is proud to welcome the ESA Connectivity and Secure Communications as a partner in advancing the future of 6G connectivity – across Europe and into space! ESA brings unique expertise and hardware, developed under its Space for 5G/6G and Sustainable Connectivity Strategic Programme Line of the ARTES programme, strengthening our large-scale testbed infrastructure.

Together, we aim to:

  • Enable real-life R&D trials for 6G software, infrastructure, and innovative technologies
  • Shared goals – both 6G-SANDBOX and 5G/6G and Sustainable Connectivity programme have a similar aim – better 6G connectivity for Europe.
  • Foster experimental cooperation among the 6G-SANDBOX consortium, ESA’s network of companies and operators and the NTN global ecosystem.

ESA and 6G-SANDBOX project are inviting research groups, companies and operators engaged in NTN R&D to participate in the upcoming trials. For details, reach out to email 5G@esa.int or go to https://6g-sandbox.eu/6g-sandbox-large-scale-ntn-experimentation/ .

IEEE Network – Journal Paper

In June 2025, a Journal paper was issued in IEEE Network.

This study compares the performance of three multipath protocols:
• Multi-connection Tactile Internet Protocol (MTIP)
• Multipath TCP (MPTCP)
• Multipath QUIC (MPQUIC)

The tests were conducted using the 6G-SANDBOX hashtagMalaga platform, leveraging its advanced multi connectivity capabilities.

EuCNC 2025 & 6G Summit 6G-SANDBOX Publication

At EuCNC & 6G Summit, Filip Ivanovic from Keysight Technologies) presented the 6G-SANDBOX paper “Developing Adaptive Calibration and Benchmarking Methods for 6G Performance Measurement”, building on insights from Deliverable 5.3 ‘Intermediate Report on KPI and KVI Validation’.

This paper explores the development of an Adaptive Calibration methodology, which can be used to provide context to results in the 6G space so that to ensure platform agnosticism. Exemplary results of its application in the 6G-SANDBOX project, exploiting four (4) different and geographically dispersed experimentation platforms, are presented hereby.

EuCNC 2025 & 6G Summit Conference paper – Developing Adaptive Calibration and Benchmarking Methods for 6G Performance Measurement – Implementation and Conclusions from 6G-SANDBOX

The paper “Developing Adaptive Calibration and Benchmarking Methods for 6G Performance Measurement – Implementation and Conclusions from 6G-SANDBOX” presented by Filip Ivanovic (Keysight) at EuCNC 2025 & 6G Summit during the OPE1 – Measurements and Management of 5G/6G Networks session, is directly derived from insights in the 6G-SANDBOX Deliverable 5.3: Intermediate Report on KPI and KVI Validation. In 6G, the use of virtualized and Service-Based Architectures (SBA) makes performance results harder to interpret compared to previous generations. To ensure meaningful experimentation, unbiased by the limitations of specific B5G/6G platforms, 6G-SANDBOX developed an Adaptive Calibration methodology. This approach enables platform-agnostic performance assessment and has been validated across four geographically distributed testbeds.
