White Paper: ‘6G KPIs – Definitions and Target Values’

In January 2025, The Test, Measurement, and KPIs Validation (TMV) Working Group (WG) published the white paper on 6G KPIs titled ‘6G KPIs – Definitions and Target Values’.

‘This white paper consolidates 6G KPIs from SNS JU projects, providing definitions, target values, and context to shape the 6G vision. Furthermore, the TMV WG promotes common collection procedures, validation methodologies, and analysis of KPI metrics. Various SNS JU projects provided the KPIs, which drive their technical developments.’

6G Research Laboratory Opening

On the 17th of January 2025 two new research infrastructures for 6G technology were inaugurated at the University of Málaga: the new Keysight – UMA 6G Research Laboratory and the Victoria Network, a project aimed at creating a private 5G/6G R&D&I network in the province of Málaga.

 6G-SANDBOX’s Contribution
The Keysight-UMA 6G Research Lab is a direct outcome of the 6G-SANDBOX project, enabling advanced experimentation in:

🔹 Real-time network monitoring (AI, IoT, satellite, smart applications)
🔹 5G/6G performance testing & energy efficiency
🔹 Digital twins & large-scale mobile network emulation

These facilities will play a key role in shaping the future of 6G technologies, offering an open platform for testing and collaboration.

The presentation ceremony for the ‘6G Research Lab’ and ‘Victoria Network’ was presided over by the Rector of the University, Teodomiro López, who was joined by Pedro Merino, Professor and Director of the ITIS Institute; Giampaolo Tardioli, Vice President of 6G & Next Generation Technology at Keysight; and Julia Criado, Deputy Director General for Spectrum Planning and Management.

Pavlos Fournogerakis, Deputy Head of Programmes at SNS JU, also attended the event and delivered a brief message, emphasizing that SNS JU welcomes initiatives like this—stemming from SNS JU-funded activities—that showcase real-life results with the potential to improve people’s everyday lives.

Prior to the event, the Rector of the UMA and our Project Coordinator Michael Dieudonne, Keysight Technologies, unveiled an inaugural plaque.

Pedro Merino, head of the Victoria Network and technical director of the 6G-SANDBOX project, emphasized the significance of having a one-of-a-kind installation in Spain that integrates results from over a decade of R&D projects, funded by both public and private investments.
